PyawTat is an app for learning Thai. This page says what we keep, why we keep it, and how to delete it.

No account required

The first time you open the app it generates a random id for your phone and creates an account from that. No name, no email, no phone number. The id stays on your device and no other app can read it.

You can use the whole app that way, forever. Signing in is optional, and only changes what is written below.

What we keep

  • Which lessons you finished, which answers were right or wrong, and when
  • The streak, XP, badges and review queue worked out from those
  • When the app was last opened

Not your location, contacts, photos or microphone. Nothing is tracked for advertising.

If you sign in

You may attach a way of signing in, so that a lost or changed phone does not take your lessons with it. Only what you choose is kept:

  • An email address, and your password stored as a hash. We never keep the password itself and cannot read it
  • For Google, Apple or LINE: the id that provider gives us for you, and the email address they pass on. We never see your password for them

The code we email you is stored hashed, expires after ten minutes, and is destroyed once used.

You can sign in more than one way, and each one is only added when you add it.

When the app breaks

If the app crashes, it sends a report so we can fix it. The report carries:

  • What went wrong and where in the code
  • The phone model, the Android version, and which version of the app
  • Your learner id, so we can tell one person hitting it fifty times from fifty people hitting it once

It does not carry your name, phone number, email address, what you typed, or a picture of the screen. Screenshots are switched off in the app, precisely because the screen worth a picture is usually the one you would least like photographed.

These reports go to Sentry and nowhere else.

Why we keep it

To show you how far you have got, to bring back the phrases you got wrong, and to see which lessons are too hard so we can fix them. Nothing else.

Who we share it with

It is not sold and not given to advertisers. It is stored with the service that runs our server (Hostinger International Limited, on a server in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

Signing in involves other companies, and only for that:

  • Your email address goes to Brevo so the email can be sent
  • If you sign in with Google, Apple or LINE, that company knows you signed in to PyawTat. They are the ones confirming it is you

Advertising

When your hearts run out you may watch one ad to carry on. That is your choice: if you would rather not, the hearts refill by themselves the next day. [ad network and a link to its privacy policy]

Deleting your data

In the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. Your account and everything above, including any email address and sign-in you attached, is removed from the server immediately. It cannot be recovered.

Signing out is not the same thing. It leaves the account where it is so you can sign back in.

If you have already uninstalled the app, email komyodev@gmail.com with your device id and we will delete it within 30 days.

How long we keep it

For as long as the account exists. Deleting the account deletes it at once.

Children

This app is not intended for children under 13.
